A useful desktop companion is more than one attractive picture. Its identity must remain stable across actions and directions, and its files must follow the ChatGPT/Codex Pet format. DeskPeto turns those requirements into one clear workflow.
1. Identify the features that define the character
Decide what must survive the transformation: a pet's coat and face shape, a person's hair and clothing, or a cartoon character's silhouette and colors. A short list of clear identity cues makes later animations more consistent.
A clear image with an unobstructed subject is usually enough. Natural, readable references help more than heavy retouching.
2. Choose realistic, pixel, or 3D
Realistic styling preserves the feel of a real pet or person. Pixel art has the clearest silhouette at desktop size. 3D styling is soft, dimensional, and well suited to a friendly cartoon interpretation.
If you are undecided, compare examples at a small size and look at how eyes, outlines, clothing, and accessories change between styles.
3. Approve the key character before full animation
DeskPeto creates a key character first. Check likeness, colors, and defining details at this stage. Once approved, that image becomes the identity reference for the full animation set.
Do not judge cuteness alone. Inspect ears, hair, accessories, clothing, and signature markings because they need to remain stable in every direction.
4. Download and install in ChatGPT/Codex
When production is complete, download the Codex Pet v2 package and extract it into the local Pets directory. Refresh the Pets list in ChatGPT/Codex and select your companion.
After installation, trigger idle, working, waiting-for-input, and task-complete states to confirm the character remains clear at its real desktop size.
